While we weighed installing thirsty sod or seed, I remembered a visit I had made to the home of Kevin L. Wattier, the head of the Long Beach Water Department, who had replaced his landscaping with a mix of artificial turf and drought-tolerant plants, reducing his water use to a trickle.
